Mineral Wells Rotarians on Wednesday had Something To Talk About – meaning a program featuring two members of the Mineral Wells Toastmasters Club called "Something To Talk About."

The program given by Cherry Rushin and Larry Core coincided with last week's announcement of a new collaboration between Rotary International and Toastmasters International enhance their skills, broaden their networks and provide positive impact in their respective communities.

Cherry and Larry told Rotarians about Toastmasters and their chapter, which has about two dozen active members and meets every Tuesday evening at the Best Western Hotel.

Toastmasters uses an informal setting to give people the opportunities to improve their public speaking skills – really not just public speaking skills but also one-on-one communication and leadership skills that can be useful in many ways, including at work, trying to get that promotion or job or closing a deal with a potential customer. The skills help a person not only in heir oral presentations, but in their writing and helps them build self-esteem and confidence.

Like Rotary, Toastmasters is an international organization and has been in existence the same amount of time – both organizations trace their beginnings to 1905. Today, Toastmasters has 358,000 members in 16,800 clubs located in 143 countries. Rotary Club has 1.2 million members in over 35,000 clubs globally.

We look forward to seeing how this new collaboration will evolve between the international groups as well as our two local clubs.
