Jim Swartz, president and CEO of Grand Prairie-based CareFlite, gave Rotary Club of Mineral Wells an overview Wednesday of the company's air and ground medical transport operations, its training and maintenance operations and the 911 services it provides for counties and communities in the North Texas area.

In operation since 1979, CareFlite will soon mark its 1 millionth patient transport. In 2016, CareFlite recorded 78,652 transports by air or ground.

CareFlite is a medical transport provider for Palo Pinto County. Though it does not have a helicopter based locally, it does fly patients from Palo Pinto General Hospital to Metroplex-area hospitals and is called on often to emergency scenes to transport critically injured patients. CareFlite does have a ground transport unit based in the county.

Swartz also spoke about the benefits of CareFlite's Caring Heart membership program that begins at $49 per year for individuals. Members are provided access to helicopter, fixed-wing and ground transportation service within CareFlite's service area.
