Rotary Club of Mineral Wells on Wednesday presented a $2,000 check to Mission Mineral Wells for its Summer Mission home rehabilitation project in July – and challenged other local clubs and organizations to match the donation.

Accepting the check were Pulse Ministries Executive Director Rose Jordan, center, and her husband, Brandon. Presenting the check is club President Jimmy Walker.

Mission Mineral Wells operates under the Pulse Ministries banner, based out of the Mineral Wells Center of Life building at 200 S.W. 5th Street.

Summer Mission is a new local project replacing the BOUNCE! program that came to Mineral Wells the last two summers and performed rehabilitation work on homes within those years' Project 365 target zones, home in which the owners were physically or financially unable to perform much-needed upgrades and repairs such as painting, replacing broken siding, fixing damaged porches and even roof and window repairs.

With BOUNCE! not returning, the Jordans and Pulse Ministries agreed to take over the project, making it what she calls "native-based" with hopes to gradually grown the project.

The week of July 4th, four homes in the Pasadena Heights area located within this year's Project 365 neighborhood improvement zone will receive rehabilitation work performed by local volunteers, with supplies and tools paid for through local donations.

The project kickoff is 4:30 p.m. on July 4th at Ram Stadium as part of that night's community fireworks show.

Rose Jordan told the club how appreciative she is of the club's generous donation. She said donations are especially important in this first year to purchase tools and items that can then be used next year and in future years. A tool collections drive is currently underway.

There is still time to donate and to volunteer to help the week of Summer Mission July 4-8. Visit Mission Mineral Wells on Facebook for more info, or click the page's Sign Up button to volunteer.
