Rotary Club of Mineral Wells on Wednesday received a program from Jim Sutton, of New Horizons, an Abilene-based company dedicated to finding adoption and foster care homes, families and care givers for children. Accompanying Jim was Frances Wampler.

New Horizons operates two residential treatment centers, a STAR (Services to At Risk) Program and foster care and adoption services in Abilene, San Angelo, Brownwood, Wichita Falls and Fort Worth.

Sutton said not too long ago there were just three foster care homes in Palo Pinto County, with 80 to 100 children from the county in foster care. That meant many of the children were in homes outside the county. Today, there are 17 foster care homes in Palo Pinto County, eight of which are under New Horizons. Because of that, fewer children are having to leave the county to live in a foster care environment.

New Horizons is working through churches and organizations to grow the number of local foster homes and foster caregivers. For more information about New Horizons and its programs, services and opportunities to get involved, even if as a baby or child sitter or respite care provider, go to http://www.newhorizonsinc.com or call 325-437-1852.
