Rotary Club of Mineral Wells meets every Wednesday at noon at Holiday Hills Country Club. This week, the club heard about the club and its plans moving forward.

"We are thinking outside the box," country club board chairman Keith Ragle told members.

He said the country club has not only rebounded from recent fiscal issues and matters pertaining to a criminal case involving past employees, Ragle said the club is now putting money into an escrow fund it will use to make ongoing improvements and keep the eastside golf course, club and facilities, including the pond, tennis courts and swimming pool, in good shape.

"We are treating the country club like a business," he said.

Ragle and board members Tammy Underwood and Barbara Upham reminded Rotarians about a special membership drive taking place. They noted guests of members can use facilities if prior notification is provided club management, and anyone in the community can attend many of the special events there, and can eat lunch or enjoy adult beverages in the lounge.

There are eight club membership levels, from stockholder to young executive to social.

Ragle said they are working on short-range ideas to promote the club and create more public interest and awareness, as well as long-term ideas. He said they are also in search of a full-time cook to prepare meals and lead the kitchen staff. You wouldn't know it from the excellent food that is prepared, including today's lunch that featured delicious meat loaf and chicken along with the sides, a full salad bar and cobbler for dessert.

Also introduced was new club pro Russell Bullock, pictured second from right. Pictured with Bullock are, from left, outgoing Rotary Club president Mary Braddock, Barbara Upham and, at far right, Jimmy Walker, the Rotary Club's incoming president.
