With presentation of a check for $1,000, Rotary Club of Mineral Wells on Wednesday became a five-star sponsor for the upcoming A Taste of Palo Pinto County.

Mineral Wells Senior Center Executive Director Bill Smith, pictured above right receiving the check from treasurer Dan Steele, visited the club Wednesday at its weekly meeting to talk about this year's annual event. He said there are currently 10 restaurants and caterers confirmed that will be serving up samples of their fare, with more being sought. This year's event will also include a 1950s sock hop with a DJ providing the music. Attendees are encouraged to bring their dance partner and wear their dancing shoes.

A Taste of Palo Pinto County is set for the evening of Thursday, July 25, at Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2399 in Mineral Wells beginning at 6 p.m. The event is the senior center's major annual fundraiser.

"We are so glad to be able to support the Mineral Wells Senior Center in this way," said Rotary Club President David May. "Of course, our grants and support of local groups and organizations would not be possible without the support we receive through our fundraisers, such as our holiday flag subscription service and our annual Crazy Kicker ride. We like putting those proceeds back into the community to help worthy causes and organizations like the Mineral Wells Senior Center."

The senior center, located 102 N.W. 6th Avenue, is a non-profit organization serving senior adults in Palo Pinto County by providing nutritional support and recreational and social activities and interaction along with physical and emotional health and well-being for persons age 50 and over.

In 2018, Mineral Wells Senior Center delivered 6,031 meals and provided 5,273 events for a total of 19,547 units of service.

Four levels of sponsorship are still available for A Taste of Palo Pinto County, and tickets are $50 each and all proceeds benefit the center. For information, become a sponsor or purchase tickets go by the center or call 940-325-6470.
