Palo Pinto General Hospital's Chief Information Officer Shane Coleman, pictured left, told his fellow Mineral Wells Rotarians about the hospital's $2 million patient and physician records systems upgrade, which they hope to have online in October 2017.

Coleman spoke during Wednesday's weekly Rotary luncheon at Holiday Hills Country Club. He is pictured with club President Jimmy Walker.

PPGH is implementing the Meditech 6.1 hospital records management system. About 400 hospitals nationwide are using, or going to, the Meditech 6.1 online records platform. Coleman said PPGH will be about the 194th hospital to go online with the system.

The web-based program will give patients and PPGH's clinics and physicians, as well as off-site physicians, the ability to easily access medical records, information, set up medical care surveillance protocols and allow other tasks such as online payments. It is optimized for mobile use, and comes with a smartphone or tablet app.

The hospital upgraded its electronic hardware systems and is in the process of building the system, including the uploading of all medical records on file – hundreds of thousands of files, Coleman said. He said virtually employed at the hospital has a hand in helping create and build the program.

More information on the new online health records system will be released in the near future.
