Mineral Wells residents won't have to drive to Fort Worth or Dallas to find one of the coolest, fastest-growing sports and entertainment venues in America and around the world. They will simply need to go downtown.

A combination of darts and bowling, hatchet throwing bars are rapidly growing in the U.S. and Canada. There are leagues and competition events, or people just go to throw hatchets at wall-mounted targets for fun.
The Privitts plan to have Hatchet House Mineral Wells open the first weekend in January.
They will have 12-foot-long throwing lanes that can be rented for $18 an hour per person for individuals or small groups. Large groups will want to rent at least two lanes.
They plan to have a family hour where kids can have turns tossing tomahawks with their parents and families. There are no age restrictions – it is whatever parents are comfortable with. Waivers are required and will be available online.
The axes are about 13 inches in length and weigh about 2 pounds. Customers may bring their own axes (long-handled axes can't be thrown because of the lane length and space).
Throwers will aim for a 4-by-4 target with scoring rings, a bullseye and a killshot.
Open-toed shoes are not allowed – costumes are encouraged.
The couple went on a date night two years ago to an axe-throwing bar in Fort Worth and fell in love with it. They decided to bring it to their hometown.
By spring, they hope to open a 10,000-square-foot area outside featuring a patio, seating, a stage for bands and a line of food trucks. Games like washers and cornhole will also take place outside.
They have applied for their wine and beer license, which they hope to have by late February or early March. Until then, it will be BYOB.
