Local historian and County Attorney Phil Garrett brought the program to today's Rotary Club of Mineral Wells' weekly meeting at Holiday Hills Country Club.

He told several stories of the city's history, including several about 1920s silent movie starlet Corinne Griffith, who grew up on North Oak Avenue and later married George Preston Marshall, the controversial owner of the Washington Redskins football franchise.

Garrett also promoted for sale a book published by Historic Mineral Wells titled, "A History of Mineral Wells 1878-1953," generated from the master's thesis research by Winnie Beatrice McAnelly Fiedler. The books are for sale for $45 each at Garrett's private law office in the Brazos Shopping Center and at Bennett's Office Supply downtown.
