Rotarian Christy Kik Dorr, right, spoke to Mineral Wells Rotary Club on Wednesday about the new location and opportunities for Cocoon Pregnancy Resource Center.

Dorr started the center in 2005 at Wolters Industrial Park before moving it to the church previously known as Leaning Tree Church, which today is Grace Church, off Old Millsap Highway. The church took over the center and did a good job continuing and growing the faith-based ministry, resource and outreach organization but needed to turn its operations over to someone else.

Dorr decided to step back in and again head Cocoon Pregnancy Resource Center, aligning it with the Palo Pinto Baptist Association and relocating it to PPBA's property at 1300 S.W. 4th Avenue, across from Houston Elementary School.

Open currently on Mondays from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., the center provides a variety of items for expecting and new mothers, and families carrying for babies and toddlers. Often, that means grandparents needing help caring for an infant grandchild. Along with diapers, bottles, wipe, clothing and more, the center also offers programs, counseling and works with other organizations, such as Mineral Wells Center of Life.

Cocoon offers free pregnancy tests at its center, and free Biblical Counseling for women by appointment with Christ. She has been certified for Biblical counseling from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth. Counseling for men is also available upon request. Coming soon are baby care and parenting classes, as well as a Family Mentorship Program.

Cocoon Pregnancy Resource center's stated mission is: "We exist to serve families with babies and toddlers in our community as an avenue to spread the hope we have in Jesus Christ with anyone in need of faith and encouragement."
