The Mineral Wells Rotary Club made history in January of 2012, with a request to charter their first Interact Club. The Mineral Wells Interact Club has completed its organizational responsibilities by electing officers, directors, and adopting the Club Constitution and by-laws.
Interact is a service club for youth, ages 14-18, with over 250,000 youth in more than 11,000 clubs worldwide. Interact’s name is a combination of the words international and action. The clubs are self-governing and self-supporting with the purpose of providing the opportunity for young people to work together in a world fellowship dedicated to service and international understanding.
The goals of Interact are:
· To recognize and develop constructive leadership and personal integrity
· To encourage and practice thoughtfulness of and helpfulness to others
· To create an awareness of the importance of home and family
· To build respect for the rights of others, based on recognition of the worth of each individual.
· To emphasize acceptance of individual responsibility as the basis of personal success, community improvement, and group achievement
· To develop life skills including self-development, time management, and personal finances
· To recognize the dignity and value of all useful occupations as opportunities to serve society
· To provide opportunities for gaining increased knowledge and understanding of community, national, and world affairs
· To open avenues of personal and group action leading to the advancement of international understanding and goodwill toward all peoples.
How Rotary Supports Interact:
The support and guidance of the sponsor Rotary club are important to an Interact club’s success. Rotary clubs are encouraged to create a lasting bond with Interact clubs in these ways:
· Invite Interactors to Rotary club meetings to report on their activities
· Create an annual joint Rotary and Interact service project and participate in World Interact Week
· Show Interactors how to produce a club newsletter and Web site.
· Help Interact clubs develop strategies for recruiting and retaining members
· Establish a recognition program to acknowledge Interactors’ achievements
· Publicize Interactors’ accomplishments to the community and the Rotary world
· Inform Interactors of other Rotary International or Rotary Foundation programs available to them
· Ask Interact club officers to meet with the district governor during the governor’s official Rotary club visit
· Invite Interactors to district conferences to showcase club activities to network with Rotarians.
