Officially still the Republican candidate for sheriff of Palo Pinto County, Brett McGuire has no Democratic or independent challenger, so after the November general election and come Jan. 1, he will be the county's next sheriff.

McGuire spoke to Rotary Club today, Wednesday, Aug. 17, about how he plans to initially approach the position when he takes over. He said he will make some changes initially, but does not plan any major changes until he has had an opportunity to become fully acquainted with the department's personnel and operations.

McGuire has an extensive law enforcement and government management background, including serving two stints as the police chief for Lake Worth and, more recently, as its city manager.
