Today was a great one for Rotary Club of Mineral Wells as we welcomed two new members, recognized a Paul Harris Society achievement and heard an interesting and informative program.

It was also the best attendance since the club resumed weekly meetings in September.

The club today formally welcomed two new members, Meagan Ishmael and Myndi Brooke Muncy. Meagan is project accountant for Jacobs Engineering Group and who recently moved to Mineral Wells. She was sponsored for membership by Candi Wallis Harrison. Myndi is the new Main Street director for the City of Mineral Wells and was sponsored by Raymond Greenwood. We are excited to have these two dynamic ladies join our club!

Club member Crystal Cameron today received from club Rotary Foundation chair Dan Steele her pin recognizing her as a Paul Harris Fellow-Plus One Rotarian. This honor recognizes Crystal for her charitable giving to the Foundation, monies used to accomplish projects around the world, within our district and our community. Thank you, Crystal, for faithful donations to Rotary Foundation.

Palo Pinto County Commissioner for Pct. 1 Gary Glover was the guest speaker for today's weekly meeting at Southside Church of Christ – the biggest attendance the club has seen since resuming meetings in September. He is pictured with program chair Janette Green.

Gary brought a vintage copy of the Mineral Wells Index featuring Col. Jack Dempsey, for whom Dempsey Heliport is named. Once part of the primary helicopter training facilities for Fort Wolters, the county acquired the 160-acre property for $50,000 and has operated it recently as Precinct 1 headquarters while leasing portions out to various companies. Recently thousands of vehicles were stored there under a contract, and Gary said the county has entered into a lease agreement with Lockheed Martin for drone testing. Also, a company will locate a portable hot asphalt mixing operation there.

Gary also spoke about developments in the county, including 280 lots platted for residential development off Pleasant Valley Road near the Brazos River. Thanks, Gary, for visiting today and sharing interesting information with club members.

Additionally, Dr. Wesley Wermuth brought a guest and prospective member!

It was, indeed, a great meeting and next week's meeting is a big one as we welcome District 5790 Governor Roger Paschal. We hope all members will be able to attend this important meeting. We meet every Wednesday at noon at Southside Church of Christ. Meetings are for members, invited guests and prospective members.
