February is our Rotary month to focus on world understanding, peace, and the prevention of violent conflict. Lies van Wijngaarden, my Dutch colleague and fellow Peace MGI Adviser, has published an excellent article titled “WORKING FOR PEACE” in Rotary Magazine NL. I recommend this well organized message on our Rotary Peace Centers, Rotary Peace Fellows, and Rotarians work for Positive Peace. Another of our colleagues, PDG Ingrid Grandum Berget from Sweden, has just returned from the celebration and signing ceremony for Rotary’s newest Peace Center to which Lies refers.
We in District 5790 have much to be proud of with six Rotary Peace Fellow alumni, as you may see on our World Peace Fellows webpage under the Foundation tab on our District website. The current timetable and process for Rotary World Peace Fellowships is on that webpage as well, which include your District 5790 Peace Fellowships Subcommittee members.
When we sleep well in Texas, it is because there are those on the front lines across the full spectrum of conflict working for Negative Peace (prevention and deterrance of violent conflict) and Positive Peace (all those civic, judicial, and humanitarian activities that build vibrant communities). For our Rotary Peace Fellows locally and globally, I give thanks!
Club Foundation Chair Harris Brooks, center, awarded a first-level Paul Harris Fellow pin and certificate to Tonya Folmar Gary, left, during Wednesday's meeting, recognizing her generous giving to the Rotary Foundation.
A member attains a new level for every $1,000 given. Those dollars are used for community service projects locally and around the world. Congratulations and thank you, Tonya.
When posts are made to our public Facebook and Instagram sites, please like and share them across your social media networks.
Doing so allows us to spread our reach, impact and help grow membership, support and sponsors. Your network of followers is different than another member's network reach, which is different than the next person's. Their likes and shares expands our reach exponentially.
FOR EXAMPLE, we recently posted about the flag barn workday and used it as an opportunity to encourage Mineral Wells residents to subscribe or renew their subscriptions. That item currently has just SEVEN likes (only one by a current club member) and THREE shares (two by club members, one share to our private Facebook page).
It is the responsibility and expectation of all club members to help promote Rotary and our club, and the easiest, simplest way you can do that is by simply liking and sharing social media posts to your page and followers.
Thanks, and we hope to see club members doing their part to promote and spread the good news of Rotary Club of Mineral Wells.
